Zooey Deschanel to Sing National Anthem at World Series

Not content to dominate film and TV, actress Zooey Deschanel will also be belting out the “Star Spangled Banner” at the World Series later this month.

Deschanel’s Sunday gig was announced on both Twitter and MLB.com, where the baseball organization said:

On Sunday, Deschanel will sing the anthem before Game 4 at Rangers Ballpark. She has earned popular acclaim for her band, She & Him, on which she collaborates with M. Ward. On Monday, they will release a holiday album, “A Very She & Him Christmas.”

The multi-talented singer/actress/TV star, who sings with M. Ward in side project She & Him, did indeed announce that the duet was adding “Christmas album” to Deschanel’s list of gigs:

“Inspired by seminal holiday albums by the likes of The Carpenters, Vince Guaraldi, The Beach Boys, Elvis Presley and more, She & Him have set out to create an intimate holiday recording of Christmas classics that helps bring new emotions out of old songs.”

2011 has been a big year for Zooey Deschanel, capped off by her World Series performance. The actress starred in the film Our Idiot Brother with Rashida Jones and Paul Rudd, as well as headlined in a new Fox series, The New Girl. Like most of Deschanel’s projects this year, The New Girl took off quickly, and became the season’s first full-series pickup for fall debuts. The New Girl follows the adventures of a recently single 20-something woman who moves in with three young, single men.

Along with Deschanel, Trace Adkins and Ronnie Dunn will be doing the national anthem honors during upcoming World Series games.
