Ben Affleck Will Be A Better Batman Than Christian Bale Because He’s American, Insists Harry Lennix

Ben Affleck is going to be a better Batman than Christian Bale simply because he’s American, according to Harry Lennix, who starred in Man of Steel and will reprise his role in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Affleck will make his debut as the iconic superhero in the hugely anticipated blockbuster, and Lennix believes that he already has a foot-up on his predecessor, who was roundly praised for his work as the character in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises.

According to Batman News, Lennix made the remarks during an interview on the Vintage Sound 93.1 FM radio show, where he was unable to hide his excitement about his part in the film.

“I think he’s going to be perfect. I’m especially excited that we’ve got an American actor here, that’s increasingly rare. The last guy, who did a great job, Christian Bale — is British. I think that when you’ve got somebody that doesn’t have to act like an American and embodies that ethos, if you will, then that gives him a head start. And knowing how intelligent and how artful that he is as a filmmaker and actor, I think he’s going to do a terrific job.”

Lennix has previously been rather open about Zack Snyder’s hugely anticipated sequel to 2013’s Man of Steel, which saw the Dollhouse star portray General Swanwick.

Last month, during a chat with Moviefone, he confirmed that fans of the cult comic The Dark Knight Returns will adore Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, which suggests that it will at least in some part be inspired by the graphic novel.

“Anybody who’s a fan of the ’86 graphic novel ‘The Dark Knight Returns,’ I think will be well pleased by [‘Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice’]. This is a historic event. Clearly, Zack Snyder is on the cutting edge of directing movies of this scope and scale. I think you can depend on the acting — you’ve got Amy Adams, of course. You’ve got Henry [Cavill]. I don’t think there are any surprises with regard to that. What will happen remains to be seen. I’d probably wind up in a box some place.”

Obviously, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice won’t be a straight up adaptation of Frank Miller’s seminal piece, but the first images of the titular characters and Wonder Woman confirmed that it has at least been an influence.

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice will finally be released on March 25, 2016, while Affleck can currently be seen in David Fincher’s Gone Girl.
