The NFL Is Looking To Move Two Teams To Los Angeles By 2015

Last week, The Inquisitr reported that the St. Louis Rams could potentially be returning to Los Angeles next season and would announce the move after this year’s Super Bowl. The Rams, who moved to St. Louis from Los Angeles in 1994, haven’t had a winning season since 2003 and are looking to give the franchise new life and a move to LA could do just that.

While it’s been speculated that the Rams could be heading back to Los Angeles after spending 20 years in St. Louis, Yahoo Sports has just reported that the Oakland Raiders or San Diego Chargers could be joining them. The Raiders left LA in 1994 along with the Rams, and the Chargers began their franchise in Los Angeles back in 1959 as a part of the AFL before they were moved to San Diego in 1961.

It’s no secret that the NFL has been dying to get a team back in LA for some time now. Over the last couple of years, the Minnesota Vikings have been a potential candidate for a move out west, but it has never even come close to happening.

The Oakland Raiders could be the first of two teams to make the move to LA as their stadium lease expires after this season. St. Louis could join them after next season when their stadium lease expires in 2016. As for the Chargers, well, all they would have to do is pay a relocation fee. However, out of the three teams that are rumored to be moving to LA, they’re the least likely to actually make the move.

Some people have speculated that this is just the same old NFL power play where they threaten fans and the local government that they’re going to take their team away, forcing local politicians to fold and provide public funding for the construction of a new stadium for their team. That may seem a bit heartless on the NFL’s part, but the NFL is a business, and they will always do what they feel is best for the league no matter how heartless or brutal it may seem.

The NFL is the only major sports league in the United States without a team in Los Angeles. While their plan could very well be to bully the local government in St. Louis, Oakland and San Diego to provide public funding for new stadiums in their cities, the real plan is to have at least one team in LA within the next 12 to 36 months, and it’s been reported that designs for a new stadium in Los Angeles have already been proposed.

Would you like to see the NFL return to Los Angeles? Do you think having two teams in LA would be too much?
