‘The Big Bang Theory’ Spoilers: Leonard And Penny Fight, Raj And Sheldon Head Underground

The Big Bang Theory is going to retread old ground by featuring yet another fight between Penny and Leonard. However, “The Expedition Approximation” will also take viewers somewhere the show has never gone before; deep underground.

It was only a matter of time before season 8 of The Big Bang Theory featured an episode all about Lenny’s bickering — it seems like there are one or more of these every season. This time the couple’s fight is going to be about their finances.

“Leonard and Penny seek advice from Wolowitz and Bernadette after they fight about money,” a CBS press release for the October 20 episode reads.

At least Penny and Leonard are going to try to work things out instead of breaking up yet again.

Now that Penny is making good money as a pharmaceutical rep, she has more cash to spend. Leonard being Leonard, you just know that he’s going to give her a speech about spending it responsibly or saving it for their wedding and their future together.

There were hints of Penny’s money troubles during “The Hook-up Reverberation.” She mentioned that she has a pile of credit card debt, and showrunner Steve Molaro has confirmed that this will become a point of contention between Penny and Leonard. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Molaro revealed that this season of The Big Bang Theory will be more about the couple preparing for their future together by dealing with their issues than it will be about the pair planning their wedding.

“At least as of now, there isn’t a lot of wedding planning as far as stories go. She’s really focused on this new career. I don’t think they’re in a rush. They’re happy, they’re engaged and, like a lot of people, they may be engaged for a while. But it does raise issues like money, combining money in the future and who has credit card debt and what that all means. Those kind of issues start to come up, which I find more interesting than the actual wedding planning.”

It’s very possible that Penny will frustrate Leonard by deciding to spend her money on frivolous items like clothes and shoes instead of paying off her credit card debt. And if you watch The Big Bang Theory, you know the last thing Penny needs is more clothes — she wears at least three never-before-seen outfits on every show.

If the idea of another Lenny battle royale turns you off, you can take comfort in knowing that you have Raj and Sheldon’s excellent adventure to look forward to. According to CBS, the guys are going to spend some time together deep underground in a dark and creepy place.

“Sheldon and Raj test whether they could survive a dark-matter research expedition in a salt mine by simulating the conditions in a steam tunnel.”

Hopefully, they don’t stumble upon any of the vampires from The Strain down there. On second thought, that would make The Big Bang Theory infinitely more interesting.

As The Inquisitr previously reported, next week’s October 13 episode is titled “The Focus Attenuation,” and it will be about the girls getting wild and crazy in Vegas. Unfortunately, Penny ends up being a bit of a buzzkill after getting an email about work. Meanwhile, the guys will try to invent the next big thing while trying to avoid the wondrous distraction that is pigeon ping pong.

“The Expedition Approximation” is episode 6 of The Big Bang Theory season 8, and it airs October 20 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
