Ben Affleck: ‘Batman Vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice’ Won’t Be Like ‘Daredevil’

The moment word got out that Ben Affleck would don the Batsuit in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, the internet lit up with comments comparing his yet-unseen portrayal of Gotham’s Dark Knight to his laughable performance in his previous superhero box-office flop, Daredevil.

Affleck promises that Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice will be nothing like Daredevil.

In an interview with NPR, Affleck expressed his feelings about Daredevil and his certainty that his newest superhero role will play out much better.

“Indeed I have regrets about Daredevil. I have regrets about all the movies that I don’t think were executed properly…. Look, if I thought we were remaking Daredevil, I’d be out there picketing myself… and that goes for other movies as well that I haven’t been happy with. You know, I’m hard on myself and I have exacting standards and I want to do excellent work and I don’t always succeed, but I think you have to start out with that drive.”

Affleck praised the unique combination of writer Chris Terrio, who Affleck worked with previously in Argo, and director Zack Snyder, who directed this film’s predecessor, Man of Steel. Snyder’s first Superman outing was met with a mix of praise for the film’s emotional telling of the classic story of the Last Son of Krypton and complaints about the over-the-top destruction sequences.

Daredevil, which was released in 2003 and directed by Mark Steven Johnson, received mixed reviews from critics but remains a theatrical disaster to fans of the comic books. Affleck even received a Razzie Award for Worst Actor that year.

Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice will be the successor film to Snyder’s Man of Steel, and already, the film has booked a huge cast. Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Clark Kent/Superman, with Ben Affleck portraying Bruce Wayne/Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fischer as Cyborg, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth.

Several Man of Steel stars will also make a comeback, with Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White. Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey, Tao Okamoto, and Scoot McNairy will also star in the film although their specific roles have not yet been announced.

Ben’s most recent film, Gone Girl, has been hugely praised as one of the best films of the year.

Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice is slated for release on March 25, 2016.
