‘Game Of Thrones’ Beer Is Back: Why Not Throw A Party?

Game of Thrones fans and beer enthusiasts rejoice! Brewery Ommegang just released the next in it’s incredibly popular line of Game of Thrones-inspired beers. The newest beer is a Belgian dubbel ale called Valar Morghulis — “all men must die” for those of us not well versed in High Valrian. The name is used in the Game of Thrones series by Jaqen H’ghar, Arya Stark, and Daenerys Targaryen. Brewery Ommegang gave details about the new brew on their blog back in May. Valar Morghulis has a deep, amber color with a persistent, creamy off-white head. They describe the taste as “rich malty sweetness, caramel and sugar, and just a touch of bitterness to balance.”

Brewery Ommegang previously brewed other Game of Thrones-inspired beers: Iron Throne Pale Ale (released in the spring of 2013), Take the Black Stout (released in the fall of 2013), and Fire and Blood Red Ale (released in the spring of 2014). The recommended retail price per 25.4 bottle is $8.50. The label of Valar Morghulis will feature the two headed-coin inspired by the coin given to Arya Stark by Jaqen H’ghar, one of the “faceless men” assassins of Braavos.

Brewery Ommegang’s Game of Thrones-inspired beers are limited edition. The company is brewing more batches of Valar Morghulis than any of the previous Game of Thrones beers, totaling around 660,000 bottles. Previous beers sold out within weeks of release, so it’s unlikely that Valar Morghulis will still be available when Game of Thrones returns for Season 5 in 2015.

With George R.R. Martin still working on the next novel in the series, and Game of Thrones Season 5 still in production, it will be awhile before fans have something other than spoilers to satisfy their burning need for all things in Westeros. So why not take a cue from Scandal’s Kerry Washington and throw a Game of Thrones dinner party?

According to People Magazine, during a recent visit to The Tonight Show, Washington admitted to being a huge fan of Game of Thrones and serving a Westerosi-themed dinner for her mother this past Mother’s Day. Washington’s Game of Thrones feast featured roast turkey legs, medieval rice pilaf, grapes, roasted vegetables, and ale. People Magazine’s article also gives a list of fancy recipes inspired by Game of Thrones, including Apple Cider Brined Turkey and roasted vegetables.
