NBA Players Union and Team Owners Break After 16-Hour Marathon Session

The NBA Players Union and team owners called it quits on Tuesday after a 16-hour marathon session, both sides plan to resume their talks on early Wednesday.

The two sides started discussions on Tuesday at 10 a.m and then continued their talks late into the night with the hope of coming to an agreement that would save the NBA season which has already witnessed game cancellations.

Federal mediator George Cohen instructed both sides to not comment on discussions and both sides left without speaking to reporters in accord with that demand.

In a statement about their media silence NBA spokesman Mike Bass said:

“Federal mediator George Cohen has asked both sides to refrain from making public comments. Both sides have agreed.”

Team owners were suppose to start talks with a labor relations committee on Wednesday but agreed to postpone those talks so they could continue their negotiations with the NBA Players Union.

One thing is for certain with two weeks of the season already lost, equivalent to 100 games, there is a lot of money being left on the table by team owners and players, something both sides can agree must be rectified as soon as possible.

The cancelled games mark the first time since the 1998-1999 season that NBA players have had a work stoppage, that season was reduced to a 50 game schedule.

Dennis Rodman recently said players need to suck up their losses and side with team owners since they made a ton of concessions for players to get the 1998-1999 season underway, do you think his statement is right?
