Larry Hagman of ‘Dallas’ Diagnosed With Cancer

Although Larry Hagman hasn’t exactly been out of the limelight in the years since Dallas was popular, the actor is probably best known for his role as JR on the show that captivated America.

Hagman, 80, also played a leading role on the 1960′s hit I Dream of Jeannie. But Dallas was back in the news because of a scheduled revamp set to begin filming this week, and Hagman made a health-related announcement just before filming kicked off.

In a statement, Hagman expressed excitement to begin working on Dallas again, but added:

“As [JR on Dallas], I could get away with anything- bribery, blackmail and adultery. But I got caught by cancer. I do want everyone to know that it is a very common and treatable form of cancer. I will be receiving treatment while working on the new ‘Dallas ‘series. I could not think of a better place to be than working on a show I love, with people I love. Besides, as we all know, you can’t keep JR down!”

Of Hagman’s new role, network brass says:

“Everyone at Warner Horizon Television, TNT and the entire ‘Dallas’ family completely supports Larry Hagman during this time. We look forward to watching Larry once again work his magic by bringing one of television’s most interesting, complex and controversial characters back to the screen in the new ‘Dallas’ series.”

Among Dallas stars returning to the hit are Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, Steve Kanaly, Ken Kercheval and  Charlene Tilton. New Dallas actors include Jordana Brewster, Julie Gonzalo, Josh Henderson, Jesse Metcalfe and Brenda Strong.
