‘Inside Out’: Pixar Delves Into The Mind And Emotions Of A Pre-Teen Girl [Trailer]

Academy Award-Winning Director Pete Docter, who brought us the wonderful Pixar films Up and Monsters University, is bringing us a fantastic new film, Inside Out. And Slash Film reports that the teaser trailer has been released today, making us anxious for the real deal.

Pete Docter is a brave man to have gone deep into a dark, mysterious place to write this script. No, it wasn’t in his basement. He delved deep into the mind of an adolescent girl. It would be a miracle for any man to be able to ascertain what goes on in a woman’s mind, yet alone an 11-year-old girl. But that is exactly what Docter set out to do — using his daughter Elie as his guide.

Docter tells Entertainment Weekly about his inspiration for Inside Out as he and his wife observed their own daughter.

“As parents we were like, ‘Wow, that’s so unlike her, what’s going on her brain?’ And that’s what lead to the heart of the story—the question of what goes on inside our own minds.”

Only, Docter had to consult with several neurologists during his extensive research on emotional intelligence, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

Inside Out encompasses the life of 11-year-old Riley who finds herself in a brand new school in the big city of San Francisco, after her Dad got a new job and moved the family from their small town. Can you say culture shock?

As Riley is immersed into a new life with completely unfamiliar surroundings, missing her old friends and her old school, there is a range of emotions within her mind and body with which she is struggling — she can’t seem to understand them. Each one of Riley’s emotions are given a persona and actually have a super-duper control center in her brain.

Those emotions are portrayed by some of our favorite actors and actresses as reported by BuzzFeed. There’s Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), and Sadness (Phyllis Smith).

Moviegoers will experience Riley’s real-life world as well as the inner-workings of her mind.

Inside Out is scheduled to hit theaters June 19, 2015. Get ready for another Pixar summer blockbuster!
