Michael Phelps Busted for DUI? That’s Just The Tip Of The Iceberg – Here’s The Rest!
Michael Phelps was pulled over early Tuesday morning in Baltimore, Maryland for driving under the influence.
According to a report confirmed by TMZ Sports, Michael Phelps was stopped by local police while driving his white Land Rover at 1:40 AM.
The good news is that Michael Phelps was willing to cooperate by taking the field sobriety test. The bad news is that he completely failed that test. The report shows that Michael Phelps’ BAC was well more than double the legal limit.
Even though it may seem as if that is where the story of Michael Phelps ended this morning (with a DUI arrest), it’s actually a lot worse than it seems for a number of different reasons.
First and foremost, the DUI charge was not the only one that Michael received. You see, the reason why Phelps was pulled over in the first place was for going nearly 40 miles over the posted speed limit (84 in a 45). In addition to the speeding, he was also busted for crossing over double lane lines.
If this was the first time that the Olympic legend was arrested for a DUI, then most people might simply chalk it up as a one-time mistake that would never happen again. However, loyal fans and critics of Michael Phelps remember that he was arrested for the same thing back in 2004 at the age of 19. Since that was his first time getting arrested for a DUI, Michael Phelps was able to easily work out a deal with the prosecutors — he pled guilty and walked away with 18 months of probation.
This time around, things might not work out as smoothly for Michael Phelps as they did 10 years ago. In addition to paying major fines (along with legal fees) and possibly serving jail time, Michael Phelps also runs the risk of losing sponsors, endorsement deals, etc.
