Indiana State University Shooting Suspect Calvin McCauley Arrested

The Indiana State University shooting suspect has been arrested, according to the latest report by Indianapolis Star. Police say Calvin McCauley, 21, has been arrested for the ISU campus shooting, where a student was shot in the buttocks.

According to Fox-59, police arrived at the crime scene at the Indiana State University campus located at 200 N 7th Street in Terre Haute around 6:30 p.m., where they found a 20-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the buttocks. The victim told police that he had been shot by two African-American males while walking near Lincoln Quad residence hall, but seemed reluctant to give any further information about the shooter. By the time investigators arrived, the shooter, who was later identified as Calvin McCauley, had already fled the scene. Police spent most of Saturday evening and Sunday looking for the suspect and asking the public to call with information regarding his whereabouts.

The victim, who is in his second year at the college, was taken to Terre Haute Hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries. Doctors say the student is expected to recover without major complications. The Indiana State University campus police issued the following statement on their website regarding the shooting incident.

“The investigation is continuing in to the shooting incident earlier this date. ISU Police are certain that the victim was the sole intended target. The victim and the suspect had been acquainted before this incident occurred and both were together for over an hour earlier in the day. The victim has not been fully cooperative in the investigation making the obtaining of additional information more difficult. The university is beginning to return to normal conditions though all person are urged to report any suspicious activity.”

Investigators had already determined that the campus shooting was an isolated event, unlike some of the deadliest campus shootings in America, as examined in a previous report by The Inquisitr.

“It is believed this is an isolated shooting incident. There is a heavy police presence on campus though it is believed that the shooter has left the area.”

Indiana State University was first established in 1865. According to Forbes, Indiana State University has a student population of about 12,000 students, with an annual tuition cost of around $30,355.
