Tyler Perry Expecting A Baby With Girlfriend Gelia Bekele

Tyler Perry has a little one on the way.

The 45-year-old entertainment mogul recently confirmed that his girlfriend, Gelia Bekele, is pregnant. There had been rumors that Perry announced the pregnancy at his birthday party last week, but he didn’t officially announce until asked about it at the opening night of the New York Film Festival.

“Good, good. We’re good. Very happy. She’s excited, I’m excited so we’re very happy,” Perry told The Associated Press.

Perry was walking the red carpet to support his latest film, Gone Girl, in which he appears as an attorney opposite Ben Affleck.

It was a project Tyler Perry said he almost didn’t take. In a recent interview, Perry said he would have turned down the role if he knew how popular the movie based on the Gillian Flynn novel would become.

“I had no sense of that,” he said of the movie’s buzz. “If I had, I probably would have walked away from it.”

He elaborated: “This is the honest-to-God’s truth. If I had known who David Fincher was, and his body of work…If I had known that the book was so popular, and so many people loved it…Had I known all of those things, I would have said no. And my agent knew that! So he didn’t tell me any of those things! Not until after I had signed on to do it.”

But Tyler Perry has taken to the role of becoming a parent with enthusiasm. In an interview with Steve Harvey last year, Perry said he was hoping to become a parent soon.

“I know I would be a great father,” he said. “I don’t want to work this hard. I don’t want to have all of this and not leave it to my children.”

At the time, Perry said his busy schedule kept him from starting a family.

“As hard as I’m working — doing 20 hours a day — now is not the time,” Perry told Harvey.

Apparently, Tyler Perry and girlfriend Gelia Bekele found time for kids.
