Three Children From War Torn Syria Receiving Hospital Treatment In Israel

During the recent conquest of parts of Syria by ISIS, also known as the Islamic State, many civilians were caught up in the crossfire and sadly that also included children.

In the case of ISIS it isn’t just a case that civilians get caught up by mistake in the crossfire because the Islamic State often kills innocent civilians just for their ethnic background or religion.

During the latest round of fighting, three Syrian children were wounded and were then taken on Saturday night to the Ziv Medical Center in Safed, northern Israel.

Despite the fact that Israel is nominally in a state of war with Syria, as no peace treaty is in place between the two countries, the Jewish State frequently offers humanitarian aid to Syrian citizens, often in the form of superior medical treatment to that they are used to receiving in Syria.

The three Syrian children were initially treated in the trauma unit of the hospital and were expected to undergo surgery when their condition stabilizes.

Two of those three children were reported to be in a serious condition caused by shrapnel, with a 10-year-old boy suffering shrapnel wounds to his whole body including his head. Another child, age 7, also suffered from shrapnel wounds, as well as a fracture on his hand.

The third victim, a 6-year-old girl was reportedly moderately hurt in her leg, where the bone had shattered.

The hospital was told by representatives from the Israeli Defense Forces that the children were hurt from a shell while playing outside in a village near Quneitra. Other children who were playing with them were killed.

The head of the emergency room at the Ziv medical Center, Dr. Hussain Amar, told reporters about the situation,

“I’m not interested in the military situation or the circumstances that brought them here, only in the medical circumstances and what they’ve been experiencing medically since they were wounded. It’s always hard to receive wounded children, but this is one of the worst cases we’ve seen here since the fighting started. It breaks your heart to receive children in such a condition, the effect of the shrapnel on their body is much more serious than in adults’ bodies.”

All-in-all, since the commencement of the civil war in Syria, Israel has treated 376 injured Syrians, leading many people to conclude that the Jewish State is a lot more moral than the fighters of ISIS, or indeed the Assad regime in Syria.
