prince harry

Way to go Prince Harry, you obviously have forgotten that there is something called The Internet and that if you are famous and say something really stupid into a camera it’s gonna end up in front of millions of people. Such is this little incident you put yourself in three years ago when he made a video of is time in the Army.

It turns out that this video contains a couple of segments where Harry refers to one Asian soldier as “our little Paki friend” and another where he referenced a solder as  raghead. While the third in line to the British throne has since apologized for making such insensitive statements there are some who want to see him officially reprimanded by the Army.

  • I haven't watched the video, but I'm sure the people being "insulted" were man enough to take it, and they probably dished out some in return. It's the MILITARY for f*ck's sake!
  • I completely agree. Do people expect military personnel to be politically correct? Of course not. The only reason this is coming up is because Prince Harry is a prince. He seems to want a normal life where his every move is not under a magnifying glass of the over sensitive public.

    ---EDIT---
After learning that "Paki" is a derogatory term, I agree that their should be some concern about this. However, I don't believe there should be widespread outrage. For all you know, the prince and this Pakistani are very good friends and have agreed that such a normally derogatory word is used in jest. Also, it isn't unexpected for a soldier to be using derogatory remarks considering so many have seen such horrible occurrences at the hands of enemies. Would you walk around and show completely respect to a group of people who shot your best friend? Sure, it's not exactly correct to do this but those of us complaining about it are completely removed from the situation and have the luxury of being able to have little to no interaction with people who may want to kill us.
  • Really? C'mon. I expect people fighting in a war to use coarse language. There was absolutely no content on this video that showed any negative attitude towards anyone, simply language that might not be ideal. Get over yourselves, people can't be politically correct all the time, especially during war or military training.
  • If you're wearing a military uniform, you should act like one. Just do your job!

I don't know what the big deal is. It's war. You're shooting at your enemy and he's shooting back at you. You're not being very polite when you're trying to kill him. During WW2, we called Japanese people "Japs" or "nips" and Germans, "krauts,' they were our enemies. They had terms of endearment for us. There have been terms of endearment in every war. It keeps both sides from realizing that other guy they're trying to kill is a guy just like them.

I don't know why "paki" would be rascist, we call people of an African descent "afro", what's the difference? (as long as you know that person's from Pakistan, that is. Which sort of invalidates the PC term "Afro-American" since they were probably born in the United States and not Africa. I don't know what they call black people in other countries, since African-American has a better ring to it than African-Britton or African-Parisian, forgive my digression).

Soldiers learn all sorts of rude behavior in theater, like looting, killing, not bathing. Deal with it. I think the only people that are bent out of shape have nothing better to do, they certainly haven't been shot at in a war before.. Maybe we need to send "thank you" notes when they drop mortars into our bases. Tie ribbons and love notes onto our cruise missiles..Send in Miss Manners to help train our troops in etiquete, we wouldn't want to offend someone before we kill them. "Excuse us, we're going to bomb the shit out of you. Is 9 am good for you?"

The British are backwards about a lot of things, but the royals have some real good ideas, like putting their own children into war before they're expected to semi-rule the country, unlike most politicians of the world that help their kids duck out of combat duty. Heck, the royals are just tie breakers now, they're not in a leadership role, but they know how to do the right thing. I salute Prince Harry, my best regards and deepest respects to the limey bastard!
