Daytona USA coming to PSN, XBLA this month

Sega’s pretty keen on resurrecting their old franchises and re-releasing them, but Daytona USA hasn’t been given the re-release treatment since back in the Dreamcast days – granted, that wasn’t exactly a port, as quite a bit was changed.

That’s set to change, though – Sega announced today that they’ll be bringing the classic arcade racer to PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. It’s set to hit October 25 and 26 on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live respectively, and our friends across the pond will be able to give it a go at some point in November.

Given the current state of our industry, you probably expected that this would be yet another “HD-ified” remake of a classic title, but apparently that isn’t the case. Instead, Sega will be delivering an arcade-perfect port without the HD makeover. It will support widescreen resolutions, though.

For Daytona USA purists, you’ll be glad to know that the original soundtrack is intact, meaning we’ll all get to hear “Let’s Go Away” (Dayyytooonaaaaa!) on repeat over and over again. Joy!

While there won’t be much changed outside of the new 16:9 resolution, Sega will be adding in an eight-player online mode for those of you looking to trade paint with friends and strangers across the globe. Oh, and there’s the obligatory leaderboards support, too.

Daytona USA will set you back $9.99 / 800 Microsoft Points when it arrives on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live later this month.

While we’re here, I might as well just go ahead and embed “Let’s Go Away”. It just wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t..
