Vitamins Could Lead To Higher Death Rates In Women [Study]

Vitamin Use

A recent study has determined that women who pop too many vitamins actually die sooner than their non-pill using counterparts.

According to the study which spanned 19-years and included 38,000 women starting at the age of 60-years-old vitamin-users have a 2.4% higher chance of dying. Researchers believe Multivitamins, B6, iron, zinc, copper, folic acid, and iron are to blame for the increase in earlier mortality rate.

While not conclusive the study believes that the high concentration of nutrients found in vitamins ”can be toxic in higher amounts, especially when consumed for a long time, as some of these accumulate to body.”

Not all supplements were found to be dangerous, in fact calcium supplements appeared to lower a women’s risk of early death by 3.8 percent.

Published today in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine the study is a series examining interventions in medicine that might be unnecessary.

It’s not just women who should worry, earlier today I reported that men and women who use dietary supplements which contain high levels of certain vitamins and minerals are at a higher risk for early death.

Anyone taking supplements is urged to watch their diet to ensure they are not over prescribing themselves with supplemental aids.
