Farmville The Movie Is Hollywood’s Next Stupid Idea

The writers of Toy Story have decided to capitalize on the huge success of Zynga’s Facebook game Farmville by attempting to write a script around the popular social game.

One Toy Story writer told IGN:

“We’re in conversations with Zynga to do something with one of their brands. Can’t really say too much on that front yet, but ‘Old MacDonald’ didn’t have a factory, if you get our drift.”

On the one hand the movie could grab the attention of tens of millions of people who love to play Farmville on a daily basis, on the other hand there are just as many people who find constant Farmville invites and announcements to be nothing more than a Facebook wall headache.

It’s still unclear what type of direction the writers will take considering Farmville is not the most action packed game on the market. I highly doubt moviegoers will want to watch a fence being put up or corn growing which means the movie will likely share a name with the game and perhaps a likeness to several characters but nothing more.

Do you think the idea of a Farmville based movie is a bad idea for whatever studio decides to pick it up? I think I’ll just be waiting for Angry Birds: The Movie, at least we know that one has the shot at a decent/funny plot.
