Atheist Bus Campaign Complaint Claims There’s No Proof God Doesn’t Exist. This is going to end well

A Christian activist has lodged a formal complaint against the atheist bus campaign in the United Kingdom.

The advertisements on over 800 buses read “There is probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.”

Stephen Green argues in his complaint that the ads are misleading on the grounds of “truthfulness” and “substantiation”, saying that there is not “a shred of supporting evidence” that there is probably no God.

Atheists backing the campaign scoffed at the complaint, but at least one admitted to secretly welcoming a formal inquiry into the adverts; an adverse finding could result in Christian adverting being banned as well on the same grounds.

  • What a joke.... so if I complain that there are churches, who proclaim there is a god with no proof... would I have a basis for that? I mean they also have "ads" of such outside to draw people in.
There probably is NO god.... proof of otherwise is not very forthcoming is it?

This is the end of blasphemy. Across the world we now have a debate - everyone has the right to hold religious beliefs but it is now socially acceptable to criticism them openly.

    Let the debate begin.
  • Sharif... It's always been ok, people just ddn't have the bottle. ;o)
  • Actually, that ad isn't far off the mark. I'd have preferred it if it read "There is a God, now stop worrying and enjoy your life". Or, at the very least, "There is no divine slavedriver, now stop worrying and enjoy your life".

Personally, I find it quite the hilarity that atheists spend all their time trying to prove that the wrong god doesn't exist.

YES! Ban all advertising from both sides, too much wastage of money.
  • Kris
Wogan, who said they are referring to the christian god.
Could be the muslim god, jewish god or any of the millions of variations of the christian god.
As well as multiple other monotheistic possiblities
  • Heyhey
Fuck all that. Either you believe or you dont. Whoever has the money to pay for the advertising space gets it. Who gives a shit either way
  • Me
Actually Kris, the muslim God, the Jewish God, and the "millions of variations of the christian god", are all the same God.

just because there is no evidence against something doesn't make it automatically true.
  • Lol this comes from a photoshop contest www.dumpert.nl its a dutch site with a lot of this "busses"

When it comes to "truthfulness" and "substantiation" it's the theists who should be sued. Religion is the biggest scam ever pulled on humanity. Theists are all either liars or fools. That's why they always try to stifle dissent and debate about religion.

If I claimed I had invented an anti-gravity flying belt, I would have to prove it and demonstrate how it works. Yet, religious nuts can make even more outrageous claims and no one is supposed to question them in the least, most innocent manner.

Surely by definition, this statement is agnostic, not atheist?

This is absolutely hilarious! Sparking debates and clashing with conventional thinking and rights. This is great! Allow me if you will to point out a few things here.

Religion - a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects.

Atheism - the doctrine or belief that there is no God.

Therefore we can state that atheism is by definition a religion correct? Then how is it wrong that they post something in an advertisement just like countless other religions and churches do? I suppose I would be considered more agnostic by definition, so I am not supporting or bashing either side here. But really what I am getting out of this is the major religions trying to force their way on people once more.

Blasphemy or freedom? Those two words are too often confused into being the same thing without anyone realizing what they're doing or saying. Whoever bought this ad space had every right to post that as anyone else who would have bought the space. End of story.

    @dylan;

you for get that a fundamental part of the definition of religion is the belief in the divine
an institution of specific fundamental set of beliefs and practises generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects to express belief in the divine practise

and atheists do not have an organized set of beliefs and practises, excluding the non-belief in the supernatural/deities.

"Atheism - the doctrine or belief that there is no God. Therefore we can state that atheism is by definition a religion correct?"

That's like saying bald is a hair color.

wrong , atheist and humanists say there is nothing out there, an dont count them selves as part of any club or cult , to be a religion you need to believe in some sort of deity , as an atheist , i know there is no such thing , my group is just trying to get equality under the law , did you know that there are 8 states in the USA that an atheist cant run for office and an atheist cant give testimony in a court of law , that's why these adds are starting to pop up and make people aware of the prehistoric idiocy that is going on.

I got those definitions directly from dictionary.com if you wanna go look yourselves. I'm not saying personally one way or the other whether atheism is a religion or not, I'm just saying that by the definitions, it fits the profile. Take it how you will, I was just posting my point of view just like everyone else.
  • mike
good for the atheists , at least some people have enough brains to say it out loud there is no such thing as an all powerful god , its all bullshit , and fake.

"Theres no proof God doesn't exist" - Lets say you've had a parrot on your head which you cant feel, smell, see, hear, or pick up on with any human or animal sense, or with any special equiment, but it has been there your entire life... you can't prove it doesn't exist. But have you spent your whole life assuming it does exist or that it doesn't. Assuming things without evidence don't exist is the logical thing to do. And is how we should treat god.
