‘Falling Skies’: Security Guard Killed In Accident On TNT Set

A security guard was killed on the set of TNT’s Falling Skies Monday night, after a freak accident left him pinned between a runaway truck and a tree.

The fatal accident happened around 8:30 Monday night in Burnaby, a suburb of Vancouver where Falling Skies was filming, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Scott McCloy, a spokesman for WorkSafeBC, said that the guard was standing at the bottom of a slight hill, when a 5-ton-truck, which was left unattended, rolled down the hill, catching him unawares.

“The vehicle tailgate was lowered for off-loading of equipment. The truck rolled backwards down the slope and caught the deceased worker between the tailgate and a tree,” he said.

The security guard was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital, according to the Vancouver Sun, where he later died. The accident is believed to be the first fatal incident to occur on a British Columbian set since 1997.

The cause of the accident was not immediately apparent. According to Deadline, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are investigating whether or not a mechanical issue with the truck could have caused the guard’s death. The local coroner’s office, as well as WorkSafeBC, British Columbia’s worker’s compensation board, are also investigating on the Falling Skies set.

“We will be investigating, so we’re looking at what happened, why it happened, how it happened and how it could be prevented in the future,” McClory added.

The set of Falling Skies was largely empty on Tuesday, one day after a freak accident claimed the life of a security guard on the Vancouver, B.C. set.
The set of Falling Skies was largely empty on Tuesday, with production halted following a freak accident which led to the death of a security guard on Monday night.

The name of the security guard, who was a member of Vancouver Teamsters Local 155, has yet to be made public by authorities. Filming of Falling Skies has been halted following the accident.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic event, and on behalf of the producers and TNT, we wish to express our heartfelt condolences to the family of the security guard,” a spokeswoman for the network said.

The fourth season of Falling Skies concluded on August 31 with a two-hour finale. The show depicts the aftermath of an alien invasion of Earth, and stars Noah Wyle, as The Inquisitr previously noted. In July, Falling Skies, which is produced by Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks TV, was renewed by TNT for a fifth season, which will also be its last.
