Prince Harry Worried About Kate Middleton, Calls Off 30th Birthday Celebration
Prince Harry is so worried about his beloved sister-in-law Kate Middleton as she continues to battle a debilitating illness caused by her second pregnancy that he abruptly canceled a celebration of a major milestone in his life — his 30th birthday.
While turning 30 is a highly significant life event for everyone, for the British prince known as “Harry,” whose given name is Henry Charles Albert David, the birthday means something extra. On that day, which falls on Monday, September 14, Harry inherits a personal fortune of £10 million — more than $16 million — from his late mother, Princess Diana, who died in a car accident in 1997, when she was just six years older than Harry will be as of Monday.
Turning 30 also marks a symbolic transition to adulthood for the second son of current royal heir Prince Charles. Long known as the “Royal Rebel” for his hard-partying ways, and seeming rejection of his royal obligations following his mother’s death, Harry now appears to be settling down, even entering a seemingly committed relationship with girlfriend Camilla Thurlow.
But Kate Middleton has also proven a calming influence on Prince Harry, with royal observers noting that Harry looks on the wife of his older brother, Prince William, more as a big sister than a sister “in law,” often turning to her for advice and solace.
Kate Middleton was one of the chief planners for Harry’s 30th birthday bash, but when she fell ill with a pregnancy-related condition known as Hyperemesis gravidarum — a crippling type of “morning sickness” — Harry quickly decided that going forward with the party would be “inappropriate,” a palace source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper.
“Kate had been very involved in organizing Harry’s party,” the insider told the paper. “Once she fell ill he felt it wrong to let the event go ahead.”
While Harry now plans to take a short vacation. But there’s still enough of the old Harry left that he won’t be letting his 30th birthday pass without some sort of celebration.
Prince Harry has pledged to his friends, sources say, that he will be holding a belated 30th birthday party as soon as the situation with Kate Middleton and her health clears up.
