Guardians Of The Galaxy 2: More Female Characters, But No New Earthlings

James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy, spoke at the recent Dragoncon, and dropped some hints about the next installment in the incredibly popular series.

When asked about the addition of more female characters, the director confirmed that more women from the Marvel universe would be included in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. However, Peter Quill will remain the only Earthling, ending speculation that Carol Danvers (Miss Marvel) will be joining the crew anytime in the near future. Gunn said there were plenty of other female characters in the Guardians of the Galaxy universe for the director to use.

Gunn also explained Stan Lee’s missing cameo.

Stan Lee was supposed to make an appearance in the Collector’s collection behind a glass box. Gunn explained what the scene would look like over Instagram,

“Rocket looks over and sees Cosmo the dog in one display case, Quill looks over into another display case and is surprised by a tentacle slapping against the glass, and Groot looks over and sees, in another display case, Stan Lee. In one take, Stan Lee just slowly turns up his finger, flipping off Groot.”

Although admittedly the scene would have been fun, Gunn said that it was removed for creative reasons.

James Gunn finished off his time in the convention by leading a massive group “grooting” shown below.

Since the debut of Guardians of the Galaxy, there has been an overwhelming reception from Michael Douglas‘ praise, to Japan, which is planning an Guardians of the Galaxy anime.

One stand-out character from the movie was Drax the Destroyer, played by Dave Bautista. His performance was so well received that the actor is now renegotiating his contract with Marvel.

Of course, Drax will be returning for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but there is also reports that Drax will be in Avengers 3. Gunn has already mentioned that the Avengers lived in the same universe as the Guardians of the Galaxy, and said there were possibilities for cross-overs.

It might be that Drax will be potentially coming to Earth, perhaps to help out with Thanos, who killed his Drax’ family.

Now the next big questions will be who are the new female characters? And who will be the next big villain for the Guardians of the Galaxy?

Fact is, there are just so many that the speculation can last forever. Until Gunn choices to reveal more, the Internet will have to continue to dream.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be released July, 2017.
