South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone likely witnessed a very different Oscars ceremony then the rest of us in 2000 when they showed up wearing gowns that showed a striking resemblance to outfits once worn by Jennifer Lopez and Gwyneth Paltrow.

On Thursday night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live the guys explained a previous comment they made to David Letterman back in March when the said they had been “Sheening [their] heads off.” It turns out they weren’t doing coke but had instead dropped some acid before heading to the ceremony where they were nominated for best original song for “Blame Canada” from their movie  “South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.”

Here’s what the duo told Kimmel:

We thought of it the week before. We had tuxes as a backup because we thought we were gonna chicken out. And we did. And we were like let’s not do that. Let’s not do that. But then we were like, “let’s take a little bit of acid.” So we did that and of course an hour later we were like, “WE GOTTA WEAR THE DRESSES.”

The thing is we didn’t take a lot of acid. So we were coming down on the acid in the audience and were like, “No fun. No fun. Oh God please don’t let us win. Please don’t let us win.”

The dressed make so much more sense now, they weren’t just acting they the creators of South Park they were acting like acid dropping cartoonists.
