Anna Kendrick Is Not Grateful For Your Expensive Birthday Gift — Here’s How She Treated One Fan

Anna Kendrick at age 29 has already compiled an impressive resume, appearing in 28 movies in just six years, including two installments of The Twilight Saga, as well as Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, and a co-starring role opposite George Clooney in Up In The Air, the movie that launched her to stardom and earned her an Oscar nomination.

And with that much exposure, it’s not surprising that Kendrick has also accumulated some highly enthusiastic fans. And after her birthday on August 9, Anna found that some of those fans were maybe a little too enthusiastic.

So now, she has a message for those fans. It goes something like, “If you send me a birthday present, I will throw it in the garbage.”

And according to what Kendrick told comedian Marc Maron on a recent edition of his popular podcast WTF, that’s exactly what she did to a fan who went out of his way to buy her a very expensive gift — a real pair of diamond earrings.

Now, in fairness to Anna Kendrick, her policy applies only to gifts sent by fans who have somehow obtained her home address — and those fans can be, well, a little weird.

“I got (a gift) with, like, a really long letter about how he really felt like we should be together, and if I would just give him a chance, and he didn’t want to do it over social media because he thought that would pressure me because it was public. And he, uh, sent me a pair of diamond earrings,” Kendrick told Maron.

Kendrick says that she doesn’t like receiving gifts at home because not only does she consider it an invasion of her privacy, but “You never know if there’s anthrax in the teddy bear. And no, there’s probably not, but it just goes in the trash.”

But she couldn’t have been too worried about anthrax because she obviously opened the package with the expensive earrings.

“For real diamond earrings,” Kendrick continued. “I did go and check. And I was just like, these have to go into the trash. I can’t. I cannot. I cannot wear them. I can’t give them to someone. It’s too weird. If the teddy bear goes in the trash, these go in the trash. Just on principle. So, I had to throw them away. If you send something to my house, it’s going in the trash.”

It’s not as if Kendrick can’t afford her own earrings with a reported net worth of $6 million. But while her reaction in understandable, the fact is Anna Kendrick can give the earrings to someone if she wants to and probably should if it happens again. That “someone” would be the police.
