Megachurch Closes Its Doors For A Very Shocking Reason

A megachurch has closed the doors to several of its branches in the Northwest U.S. over a shocking statement by its head pastor. It appears sexism is alive and well, even in the house of God.

Most churches are often judged by the actions of unrelated incidents, such as televised preachers saying ignorant things, or the latest protest by the internet hate group known as the Westboro Baptist Church. Thankfully the church in question, Western Evengelical Church Mars Hill, has “owned up” to their head pastor’s poorly chosen words and instead of fighting, they’re closing.

Sexism and religion haven’t been known to be far apart either, as revealed by The Inquisitr‘s report that Full House star Candace Cameron Bure suggested the old-fashioned Christian law that women should be fully submissive to their husbands. The times have certainly changed.

The words spoken that caused the megachurch to close its doors were those of Pastor Mark Driscoll. He had allegedly told a woman in his congregation that she should apologize to her abusive husband, bowing to his will and giving him oral sex. This isn’t the worst of it.

Pastor Mark Driscoll was also accused of mishandling church funds and behaving like a dictator. It was the following statement that got the religious leader in trouble.

“The first thing to know about your penis is, that despite the way it may see, it is not your penis. Ultimately, God created you and it is his penis. You are simply borrowing it for a while.

“While His penis is on loan you must admit that it is sort of just hanging out there very lonely as if it needed a home, sort of like a man [wandering] the streets looking for a house to live in. Knowing that His penis would need a home, God created a woman to be your wife and when you marry her and look down you will notice that your wife is shaped differently than you and makes a very nice home.”

The megachurch is closing its doors because its head pastor practically called women a “penis home.”

A previous statement made by Pastor Mark Driscoll that drew internet ire was one that called the United States a “pussified nation.”

Yes, even religious leaders can be internet trolls. However, in a society that demands increasing levels of understanding between men, women, and all sexual preferences and races, there is no call for pastors who demean women in that way.

Do you think the megachurch was right to close its doors, or should they have found a different head pastor?
