Calvin Harris created yet another international hit when he released “Summer” back in March.
If you don’t think it was that good of a song, then you might be surprised to know that it was the most played song in the world on Spotify all summer long!
According to Entertainment Weekly, “Summer” was streamed over 160 million during the three months of summer. Keep in mind that Spotify only has about 40 million registered users.
Although this Calvin Harris song was the most played hit of the season it was named after, that’s not necessarily where the irony ends.
As mentioned earlier, Calvin Harris released what would become the most played song of the summer…in the spring! Instead of waiting to release “Summer” during the actual summer season, Calvin Harris seemed to jump the gun by releasing it as a single on March 14.
Should that be so much of a shocker? Not really! Why not? Because Calvin Harris is not the first person to release an international hit song about summer during the springtime. He may have had a little inspiration from his buddy Will Smith since DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince released the timeless classic, “Summertime” on May 20, 1991.
Based on the responses and reactions posted on Twitter about this Calvin Harris song recently, it is apparently clear that people might still be singing this song 20 years from now as well:

But, like many other hit summer songs before it, plenty of people are sick and tired of hearing this Calvin Harris hit being played at all:

Within the United States alone, however, it was actually Iggy Azalea that earned the top-ranking spot on Spotify’s most played list with her catchy yet somewhat annoying hit single, “Fancy.”
Here is the complete list of the Top Ten most played songs in the world on Spotify this summer:
1. Calvin Harris – Summer
2. Ariana Grande feat. Iggy Azalea – Problem
3. Magic! – Rude
4. Iggy Azalea – Fancy
