Melissa Rivers Devastated: Mel Confirms Her Mother Has Died, Celebs Send Condolences
Melissa Rivers has released a statement, confirming that her mother, Joan Rivers, has died.
According to People Magazine, Rivers’ only daughter wanted to reach out to the world directly, to ensure that everyone knew that her mother was surrounded by loved ones at the time of her passing. Melissa also took the time to thank the doctors and nurses at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, as they took excellent care of her mom over the past week.
“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother. Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated. My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”
Melissa Rivers has been in everyone’s thoughts and prayers since her mother was rushed to the hospital last Thursday. Joan was having a procedure done on her vocal chords at a clinic in New York when she went into cardiac arrest. This has obviously been a very difficult week for Joan’s family, and it’s hard to even imagine what Melissa has been going through. Those that know her and knew her mom have been sending out endless love and support, most knowing just how close Mel was to her mom… and just how devastating this is for her.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Melissa Rivers has been at her mom’s side all week. Despite reports that Joan Rivers was showing signs of improvement, Melissa did confirm that her mother was on life support earlier this week.
According to TMZ, the New York City medical examiner’s office has been notified of Joan’s passing and there will be an investigation into the comedienne’s cause of death.
