Blu Cantrell, the r&b singer who is best known for her catchy song “Hit Em Up Style,” was hospitalized after she was found ranting in the street. According to TMZ, Blu Cantrell, aka Tiffany Cobb, was found running in the street and yelling that someone had tried to poison her.

Sources say the bizarre scene took place in an area of Santa Monica at around 2 a.m. Police officers were dispatched to location after all attempts to calm the “Breathe” singer down failed.

According to witnesses, when police arrived, Blu was still visibly upset and ranting that someone had given her a “poisonous gas,” according to TMZ‘s report. Law enforcement officials took Blu Cantrell into custody to have her psychologically evaluated.

Blu Cantrell made headlines in 2001 for her hit song “Hit Em Up Style.” The tune stayed hot on the Billboard music charts. The song was featured on her album So Blu. Rhode Island native Blu Cantrell has appeared in the 2007 musical stage play Gossip, Lies and Secrets, starring Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kenya Moore.

Blu Cantrell is also known as rapper Jay Z’s ex-girlfriend. Sources say the relationship with Jay Z happened long before he and Beyonce got together, though Blu Cantrell is rumored to have referenced Beyonce’s now husband in a song entitled S.O.S (Tell Me Where You At), according to Vlad TV. The song lyrics which refers to Jay Z goes this way.

“When I was your girl, and you were my man, I stood by your side, when no one was there – all the way to the end, If you’d ever need me. But instead it seems you left me for dead.”

“What you said with your mouth, you didn’t show with your actions, And foolishly I believed it, Now I’m the one who has to deal with the let down – broken promises that you made to me.”

Blu has been very vocal about people using her name Blu. Some suggest that she even took issue with Beyonce and Jay Z for choosing Blu as part of their daughter, Blue Ivy’s name. The Inquisitr reported in 2012 that Jay Z and Beyonce had Blue Ivy’s name trademarked.

On a Facebook page that claims to belong to the Blu Cantrell, a couple of posts display the songwriter’s irritation regarding the use of her name without permission.

“I’m sick of people stealing my name! Smh”

“I heard there was a rapper named Blu…you can’t have that name sweetheart, that’s my name baby #changeyourname”
