See The Guardians Of The Galaxy Character That Got Cut From The Film

The newest comic book superhero film to hit theaters was Guardians of the Galaxy, which turned out to be one of the most successful super hero films to date. Guardians of the Galaxy topped $200 million in the box office and wowed moviegoers and critics everywhere with its blend of action and off-the-wall comedy. But what some Guardians of the Galaxy fans may not realize is that there was a minor character written into the original script who was later cut out of the film.

According to ComicBook.com, writer and director James Gunn recently revealed a photo from the set of Guardians of the Galaxy showing the character Drax next to the actress Marama Corlett. She was playing the scrappy pit boss running the Orloni-F’saki table in the Boot of Jemiah. Dave Bautista, who played Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy, can be seen affectionately rubbing Corlett’s head as she pretends to look annoyed. The image was shared on the Instagram account of the man behind Guardians of the Galaxy.

James Gunn claims Corlett’s character can be seen in the background of Guardians of the Galaxy but originally had a much larger role. She was cut from Guardians of the Galaxy due to time constraints and to improve the pacing of the movie.

When Gunn shared the photo, he wrote the following description including an explanation of why the pit boss character didn’t make it into Guardians of the Galaxy;

“#gotgpicoftheday One of the tough things about making a film is sometimes you have to cut performances from the film, not because there was anything wrong with the performance, but for time or plotting reasons. Such was the case with @maramacorlett, who played the pit boss running the Orloni-F’saki table in the Boot of Jemiah. She was amazing, learning all of her lines in a foreign language we created. Although you can still see her in [Guardians of the Galaxy] her part was drastically cut down because of pacing. However her character didn’t die, so who knows where the pit boss could show up again! Here @realbautista rubs her head like he did in the cut scene from the movie, irritating her while drunk.”

According to Cinema Blend, Marama Corlett is a Malta-born actress who made her debut in 2011’s The Devil’s Double. Thanks to James Gunn’s dedication to her, she could appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. It’s also possible that if the character doesn’t reappear in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, the actress could be utilized in a future Guardians of the Galaxy film.
