Todd English Arrested: Celebrity Chef Faces DWI Charge After Hamptons Incident

Celebrity chef Todd English was arrested Sunday, and he is facing a charge of driving while intoxicated. English, 54, was pulled over around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning in the Hamptons as he was driving around “lost” with his girlfriend.

According to Page Six, Todd English was driving his 2011 Buick when he was seen drifting out of his lane. Police pulled him over near the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. Authorities asked if he had been drinking, and he reportedly admitted that he had consumed two glasses of wine. English is said to have refused a Breathalyzer test.

The celebrity chef was then charged with misdemeanor DWI as well as with having made an improper turn. He appeared in court in Hampton Bays Sunday and was released on $1,500 bail. His lawyer, Eddie Burke Jr., has released a statement. He says they “adamantly deny the allegations levied against Mr. English,” and they look forward to addressing it in court.

Sources indicate that English had been celebrating his birthday, which was on Friday, for several days. He reportedly dined Saturday night and then arrived at Sienna and spent quite some time celebrating with a group of eight people. Witnesses say they had fun and drinking quite a bit, but “He wasn’t acting crazy.” Later, he headed to the Finale East nightclub.

As People notes, Todd English is known for his numerous restaurants, including Figs, Olives and Bluezoo. He has several published cookbooks and is the host of Food Trip With Todd English. He has been seen on many talk shows, and he has participated in episodes of Iron Chef and Top Chef as well.

AOL notes that this is not English’s first brush with legal issues, though the previous issue was much different. In 2009, his former fiancee was charged with assaulting him. She allegedly hit him with a metal watch, which left him needing stitches. English called off the wedding, and in 2010, the case was closed after the former fiancee went through anger management classes and performed some community service. From the sounds of things, the girlfriend in the car with English this past weekend is someone new in his life, and little has been shared about her.

Though the celebrity chef had been tweeting regularly in the days prior to his arrest, he has stayed off social media since the incident. Will Todd English’s DWI arrest turn into big issues for the celebrity chef? Fans will have to stay tuned to find out.
