Joan Rivers Condition Update: ‘Doomsday’ Reports, Life Support Rumors False?

Joan Rivers’ condition is still serious but stable, as she remains in a Manhattan hospital for a sixth day. While there has been a lot of talk about Rivers being on life support after going into cardiac arrest on Thursday, a new report from someone close to the Rivers family claims that Rivers is actually “getting better.” According to E! News, Joan is “on the road to recovery,” and any reports to the contrary are said to be false.

“It’s a slow process, but she’s on the road to recovery. She’s getting better. Don’t believe all this ridiculous speculation.”

Rumors that Joan Rivers was on life support and didn’t have a fighting chance have circulated for days. According to The New York Daily News, Rivers was being woken up from a medically-induced coma, but doctors weren’t sure if her brain function was going to be back 100 percent. The hospital was supposedly going to have answers today, and an update is expected at some point.

“The waking-up process has begun and will take until Tuesday. There is real concern that the part of the brain that controls motor skills may have been compromised, leaving her as either a vegetable or in a wheelchair.”

That said, there has been talk about Melissa Rivers needing to make a decision about her mother’s life… and whether or not it would be worth living if she was, in fact, a “vegetable.” However, the source connected to E! News said those reports aren’t true either — and Melissa is not “devastated” as previously speculated.

“[Melissa] is a rock. She is calmer than I’ve ever seen her. All these reports about doomsday are not true. She is her mother’s daughter and she’s tough as nails. She’s the person keeping everyone together. She’s focused on one thing: Her mother’s health.”

Joan Rivers is going to have a tough road ahead of her, but whether that is spent in a hospital bed or resting in her apartment on the East Side is still unknown. While the latest concrete report seems to be very positive, some people wonder if the situation is much more serious. If the life support rumors are true, Joan may not be with us for much longer. Could E! be trying to make everything seem better than it is?

If you read the comments left on this post by The Inquisitr, many people seem to think that the source is being “overly optimistic” and that the network is actually trying to “milk” the situation. Of course, time will tell… and people should have a better idea about what is really going on by week’s end.
