Lana Del Rey Possible For Next James Bond Theme Song

Lana Del Rey is being considered to record the theme song for the next James Bond movie.

MTV is reporting that Lana is one of the two singers being considered, the other being new British singing sensation Sam Smith. Smith has also been said to be in discussions with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli.

But now The Sun reports that American Del Rey, 29, is also under consideration. A source told the paper: “Producers know it has to be a great song with a killer vocal to rival the phenomenal success of Adele’s Skyfall.

“Sam seems like the favourite but Lana could definitely give him a run for his money.”

Del Rey, 29, last year supplied the hit Young And Beautiful as the theme for The Great Gatsby. And she recorded a re-working of Once Upon A Dream for the Disney blockbuster Maleficent this year.

The International Business Times is reporting that though the two are being considered, Smith has not been in contact with Broccoli as of yet.

Adele’s Skyfall is currently one of the bestselling Bond themes of all time and the first to win an Academy Award for Best Original Song, the first Oscar for a Bond film in 47 years. Another Bond song that was nominated for an Oscar was Paul McCartney’s ‘Live and Let Die’, taken from the film of the same name.

Kpopstarz is reporting, however, that those in the know were hoping Adele would come back and do the next song, too. Since she is busy with the new baby and completing a new album, focus then shifted to Smith.

An MGM source said, “Sam is our top choice. He has the profile, cool image and an astonishing voice to record a Bond theme.”

“And there is only so long we can hold out for Adele. Daniel Craig was pushing for her because she did such a great job last time around,” the source continued, the Huffington Post reports.

“But from her perspective, how can she better what she did with ‘Skyfall’? She won an Oscar, Bafta, Golden Globe and had a global No1.”

If Sam Smith does agree to a deal for the “Bond 24” theme song, he will be the first British male to sing a Bond theme since Tom Jones’ song in 1965, ‘Thunderball’.

“Sam would be strong for our brand. It’s about time we had a British male singing the title track again,” the source added. “Sam’s range means he can really dish up passion, energy and excitement when the opening titles roll with the music.”

As we previously reported, Adele is currently working on her new album expected to drop this fall, as well as tending to her baby, meaning she’s too busy for the “Bond 24” theme song.

The next Bond film currently has the working title Bond 24 and is due for release October 2015.
