Chick-Fil-A Reenters The Fast Food Breakfast War With Expanded Menu

This year, two well-known fast food franchises, Taco Bell and McDonald’s, threw jabs at each other in the pursuit of procuring the championship of the 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. time slot. To everybody else, it is simply known as breakfast. To be fair, Taco Bell probably just wanted to increase their sales and had no intention of taking out any of their competition when they introduced their breakfast menu. It is basic economics that teaches us variety drives the economy.

Unfortunately for them, McDonald’s saw Taco Bell as a threat and during Taco Bell’s debut week, McDonald’s offered free coffee with their breakfast. Taco Bell wouldn’t take it lying down so they retaliated in which they proved to the world that Ronald McDonald loved Taco Bell’s breakfast.

While both restaurants were bickering among each other, they didn’t see another famous fast food restaurant enter into the fray. What makes this new challenger stand out is they are the champion when it comes to chicken, and they are revamping their breakfast menu.

According to WSB-TV Atlanta, Chick-Fil-A has made the decision to add more unique food products to their breakfast line. Already consisting of five different chicken biscuit sandwiches, bagel sandwich, two breakfast burritos, two platters, and a mix of sides, Chick-Fil-A’s breakfast menu has variety for different flavor palettes. Now, the Atlanta-based company is testing an expansion of the menu for a limited time in several locations.

The new breakfast products include maple waffles, multigrain oatmeal with fresh fruit, Greek yogurt parfait, egg white chicken grill sandwich, and maple waffles. The coup de grace however is the chicken and waffle – a boneless chicken breast with a caramelized sugar crunch waffle with maple syrup baked on the inside. Probably the egg white chicken grill is a jab at McDonald’s and their Egg McMuffin because Chick-Fil-A pretty much made a “chicken” version of that.

Chick-Fil-A’s egg white chicken grill is the “chicken version” of McDonald’s Egg McMuffin.

Los Angeles Times also reported on the new menu with prices and partnerships. Some of the products were given initial prices such as the $4.29 for the chicken and waffles, $3.35 for the egg white chicken grill, and $2.49 for the parfait and oatmeal.

Chick-Fil-A also partnered with THRIVE Farmers Coffee to offer farmer-direct brew in its restaurants. The money from each cup of caffeine goes directly to THRIVE’s network of farmers in Central America. Right now, the expanded breakfast menu is only available in Philly, Mid-Georgia, Memphis, and Atlanta.

Before concluding, there is one more thing that Taco Bell and McDonald’s need to take into account pertaining to Chick-Fil-A’s move to expand their breakfast options. If customers are aiming for quality, Chick-Fil-A is a far bigger threat. The reason why is because Chick-Fil-A is voted as one of the top ten best fast food restaurants in the United States as reported by The Fiscal Times. They also did an article on the eleven worst fast food restaurants in the United States. Both Taco Bell and McDonald’s made the list.
