More Mysterious Holes Appear, This Time In Mount Baldy, Indiana [VIDEO]

Over the course of this year, there have been some mysterious happenings on the face of our planet. Here on The Inquisitr, we reported on such occurrences which seem to be a quagmire to even the most seasoned of experts. This includes the holes that appeared up at the Yamal Peninsula in Russia and Siberia, and the crack in the earth down in Mexico. What is worrisome for some of these experts is they have no idea how these phenomena happened. They may have a hypothesis, but it is nothing more than a possibility.

Now there are reports of more crazy happenings within the earth as more holes mysteriously appear. This time, they are here in the United States, specifically in Indiana.

According to Weather, five holes have been discovered at Mount Baldy in Indiana, the most recent of which was from a scientist from an Indiana University team. The scientists were on site this week to begin a week-long study on the holes’ formation ever since a 6-year-old boy, Nathan Woessner, fell into one of the holes about a year ago.

Scientists traversed the dune when he felt the ground beneath him give way, leading to the discovery of a hole about 4-1/2 feet deep, big enough for a small child could easily fall into. Todd A. Thompson explained that an outer layer of sand covered the opening which disguised the hole from plain site. If this is the case, then it is very discomforting because Mount Baldy is a well-known attraction. Others might fall into these disguised holes by accident. Therefore, Mount Baldy remains closed to the public.

In the initial article by the Chicago Tribune, it reports that Mount Baldy is extremely active and shifts an average of four feet every year due to gusting winds. In a span of seventy years, it has moved slowly inland to an average of about 395 feet. It should also be reported that when the dune moves, anything in its path gets swallowed up as stated by Bill Mohaghan of the Indiana Geological Survey.

“There were trees growing, there were houses built, and now they’ve been covered by the dune. So now the whole shape of the old Mount Baldy from the 1930s is gone, and it’s a different dune.”

So far, the scientists from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Indiana University Geological Survey have identified six unstable areas which includes a 26,000 square foot area where most of the collapses occurred. In conclusion, Bruce Rowe, spokesman of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, stated that any course of action park officials may want to take is dependent on findings.

“We want to let the science do the talking before we make any management decisions. We want to make sure we understand what’s happening from a geological standpoint so we can make the proper decision as to what to do with Mount Baldy.”

What do you think is causing all of these holes to appear at Mount Baldy? Better yet, what do you think is causing all these mysterious happenings (Yamal Peninsula, Mexico Giant Crack) to occur? Please let us know in the comments below.
