Vampire Diaries Season 6 Emotional Teaser Released [Video]

The first teaser trailer for Vampire Diaries season 6 has been released, and it’s going to have the fans in tears already.

Vampire Diaries wrapped up its last season with some controversial decisions and a surprising amount of characters dead. You can read more about that here, including what the actor who plays Stefan thinks should happen at the end of the Vampire Diaries.

But regardless of what Stefan wants, The Vampire Diaries is reaching an emotional climax. Hypable reported on the trailer, pointing out that Elena is still grieving for the loss of her dark and brooding boyfriend, Damon, who appears to have died at the end of the previous season of The Vampire Diaries. In the Vampire Diaries teaser clip, we can see that Elena is still sobbing over Damon’s death. Meanwhile, Damon’s brother Stefan can be heard telling Elena that she needs to say goodbye to Damon once and for all.

The strangest part of the Vampire Diaries trailer video is that Damon is in it. Toward the end of the teaser, you can see Damon appear behind a mourning Elena and say to her, “Elena, move on.” It’s unclear if this is some kind of spiritual representation of Damon, or a message from the world he’s crossed into, or simply a hallucination. Fans will have to wait until the premiere of The Vampire Dairies season 6 to find out.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the beginning of The Vampire Diaries will open with a large chunk of time skipped. Elena and her friends have been kicked out of Mystic Falls and are under a “no-magic” spell.

“The way we look at it, season six is a beautiful and organic reset. The theme of the season is everybody gets to start over. That’s what we’re going to do,” said executive producer Julie Plec. “We’re trying to take [The Vampire Diaries] away from the massive genre extravaganza where each season we try to top each other with the bigger, bad, more exciting mythologies and boil it back down to the beginning, which is tension, suspense, romance, psychological horror, simple horror, vampires living in secret, people discovering their secret and coming after them.”

The Vampire Diaries season 6 will premiere in the fall on Thursday October 2, at 8:00pm EST on the CW.
