WWE: Brock Lesnar Needs Dwayne Johnson The Rock For A Decent Heavyweight Championship Match?

With Brock Lesnar now reigning as the WWE Heavyweight Champion, some fans are wondering what it will take to topple the new WWE title holder in a reasonable manner. After all, the SummerSlam 2014 match with John Cena was about as one-sided as can be, so it would seem many of the current WWE wrestlers would not stand a believable chance. So could Vince McMahon attempt to draw Dwayne Johnson The Rock back into the ring?

In a related report by The Inquisitr, Brock Lesnar and Hulk Hogan have been trading verbal jabs ever since the latter was called “grandpa” during the birthday bash. Alberto Del Rio seems to be taking lessons from Lesnar’s WWE contract lawsuit since Mexico’s greatest import is considering going to court in order to dispute the no-compete clause.

If you have not watched the SummerSlam match, you really should. It was all about the Beast dominating Cena from start to finish. Even 10 minutes into the match the best Cena could do was make a surly face when Lesnar bellowed, “I’m gonna kill you!” Cena fans were probably expecting a comeback, but that comeback never came. Two F-5s and 16 German suplexes later, the WWE had a new Heavyweight Champion, and the face of the company was on his back. Considering that Lesnar also took Undertaker’s streak, what storyline angle could WWE creative take that at least seems reasonable?

Randy Orton is already claiming he’s “owed” a title match, which at least makes sense since the Viper has held the WWE title 12 different times and is often featured in main match events. At the same time, Orton is currently a heel working with The Authority, so it seems unlikely they’d have a heel versus heel match, although it could be argued that it would be a corporate heel versus a part-timing one-man-band heel.

I’ve seen other writers suggest that Chris Jericho would make a good match to Brock Lesnar since he’s held the championship six times in the past. But that would be pitting part-time superstar versus part-time superstar. Big Show has the physique to at least handle the Beast, but Lesnar already beat him once in recent times so that’s unlikely. The WWE could simply resort to having Cena making a comeback at Night Of Champions, but that would come off as unbelievably lame considering how badly their face man was squashed last time.

The current rumor suggests the featured title match for WrestleMania 31 will be Brock Lesnar Vs. Roman Reigns. His run with the Shield put him on the map and his feud with Orton has his star rising fast. Reigns is also considered the next generation of WWE stars so beating Lesnar would be the big boost he needs to make him popular for years into the future.

But this is where an internal dispute may result in The Rock Vs. Brock Lesnar being considered as a serious option. It’s also rumored that Vince McMahon and Triple H are arguing, with Paul Levesque pushing the Reigns angle while McMahon wants Dwayne Johnson back for a title fight. This match would make sense since Dwayne Johnson Vs. Brock Lesnar was supposedly in the works until The Rock injured himself at WrestleMania 29.

If the focus is on a one-on-one match, the only other option is that Brock Lesnar is simply allowed to reign as WWE Heavyweight Champion for a long time until they can figure out a reasonable story angle. This would not be the first time in recent memory since CM Punk held onto the title for almost a year and a half. But I doubt that’d make too many WWE fans happy.

Quite frankly, WWE creative needs to be a little more creative. For example, Randy Orton lost his title in that three-way match with Dave Batista and Daniel Bryan. So it’s possible we could have Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, and Randy Orton do the same thing except this time it’s last man standing, not whoever makes the pin first. If they really want to mess with Lesnar’s head, they could stick the Beast in Royal Rumble 2015 and then hand the title to whomever manages to toss Lesnar out of the ring. I vote that Hornswoggle sneak in and give Lesnar the last shove simply because that would be absolutely hilarious.

What do you think the WWE should do with Brock Lesnar as their champion? Are you even interested in Brock Vs. Rock?
