Band Teacher Jeffery Gainous Arrested For Bondage Sex With Students

A local band teacher has been arrested for having bondage style sex with his students. According to Alabama 13, Jeffery Gainous, a 32-year-old married band teacher was arrested on Thursday, August 21, 2014 and charged with a school employee engaging in a sexual act with a student.

Jeffery Gainous had just accepted a teaching job in Georgia with the Thomas County School System but was arrested and extradited back to Alabama on the sex charges. According to Brewton police, Gainous had sex with the female students and committed acts such as tying the girls up with rope and gagging them with bondage style devices. Police expect more victims to come forward in light of the latest allegations. Investigators say that at least eight young girls have had sex with Jeffery Gainous either in his home or in the school’s band room. The girls were shocked to find out that they were not the only victim.

Jeffery Lance Gainous was a well-respected teacher at T.R. Miller High School in Alabama, where he served as band director. He had been working at T.R. Miller High School since 2008. The high school students all thought highly of Jeffery Gainous, a young and handsome teacher who everyone thought was cool.

The break in the case came after two teenage victims reported the incident to police. By the time police learned about the case, Gainous was already in Georgia preparing himself to begin his new position at the school. The school’s website in Georgia stated the following.

Gainous comes to Thomas County School System from T.R. Miller High School in Brewton, Alabama, where he served as band director since being hired in 2008. His success at T.R. Miller included earning straight superior ratings, receiving “Best in Class” awards, and being selected and performing for half time at the NCAAF “BCS” Championship game in New Orleans. The band program flourished under his supervision, growing from 70 to more than 100 musicians at a school enrollment of only 340.

According to police, band teacherJeffery Gainous didn’t show any remorse in the beginning but started to show some signs of regret after he was arrested. At first glance, various photos of Gainous show a happy, confident teacher with a good spirit. Much different than the mugshot showing the face of a very scared man whose dirty deeds have come to light.

Parents do well to ask their young children and teens specific questions about their teachers, preachers, coaches and neighbors weekly, if not daily. The topic of sexual abuse and inappropriate touching can come in the form of a direct question or a simple discussion. Most importantly the child needs to know that being touched in a sexual way by a teacher or any other adult is wrong, and that they have an open line of communication with you–the parent.
