Is This Hoth? No! It’s The ‘Star Wars’ ALS Ice Bucket Challenge!

If you haven’t yet heard of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, then you’ve been living under a rock.

Over the past week or so, the ALS Challenge has been taking the internet by storm, the most recent participants? The Star Wars family including director of Star Wars Episode VII, J.J. Abrams.

Here’s how the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge works. Someone receives the challenge by someone else who has already participated. Once named, you have 24 hours to film yourself dumping an ice-cold bucket of water over your head. If you don’t complete the challenge within 24 hours – or choose not to – then you have donate to the ALS Association. The ALS Association raises money for awareness and research concerning ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease according to the ALS Association website.

If you do complete the challenge, you get to name a friend (or more) that must complete the challenge within 24 hours. And so on.

Many, many celebrities have taken part in the challenge, including NBA star LeBron James, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons, and now even the members of the Star Wars family.

J.J. Abrams joined in on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge last week in London and recently posted the video. Abrams was nominated by none other than Steven Spielberg. In the video, Abrams reveals that his grandfather, Samuel Abrams, was a sufferer of ALS and was doing the ALS challenge in his honor.

As a result of fulfilling the challenge of pouring the Hoth-temperature bucket of water over his head, Abrams nominated the 501st Legion of Star Wars fans and none other than Stephen King.

J.J. Abrams nominated Stephen King to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and the “Master of Horror” came through. King, in turn, nominated author John Grisham.

As far as the Star Wars family goes, no word yet on whether or not George Lucas stepped up to the plate, but J.J. Abrams wasn’t the only Star Wars family member involved, according to Dork Side of the Force.

James Arnold Taylor, who voiced Obi-Wan Kenobi and Plo Koon on the Star Wars animated series, Star Wars: Clone Wars, took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge:
