Tucker Blandford: Groom Fakes His Own Death To Avoid Wedding

Tucker Blandford is accused of faking his own death to avoid getting married. Alex Lanchester, a native of the United Kingdom, said she met her groom-to-be while attending a Connecticut college. Although the couple dated for nearly two years, and planned a romantic wedding, their relationship came to a tragic end.

Alex said she and her former fiance had a storybook romance. Throughout their relationship Tucker was the perfect gentleman:

“He showered me with jewelry. We would go out for a posh dinner on the tenth of every month to celebrate the day we got together. I’d never been in love like that before.”

Although Alex returned to the United Kingdom following her graduation, Tucker proposed marriage before she left. Alex happily accepted the proposal and the couple began discussing their wedding plans.

The Mirror reports that the couple maintained contact through daily phone calls. Tucker Blandford also made plans to travel to the UK to help his fiancee plan the wedding. Unfortunately, he later cancelled the trip.

According to Alex, Tucker claimed he was arrested for providing alcohol to minors. He said his court date was pending and he was unable to leave the country. Although she was devastated, Alex accepted her fiance’s explanation.

Tucker further assured his fiancee by setting a wedding date of August 15. He also suggested the perfect location for their wedding — the college campus where they first met. He promised to travel to the UK in March to meet Alex’s family and friends.

Alex said she spent thousands of dollars on plane tickets, wedding invitations, and a photographer. Unfortunately, within days of her fiance’s planned visit, Alex received a disturbing phone call.

The man on the phone, who introduced himself as Tucker’s father, explained that her fiance had been battling depression. Although his family encouraged him to seek psychiatric help, the young man apparently committed suicide by stepping in front of a moving truck.

When Alex contacted her fiance’s mother to express condolences, she was struck with even more disturbing news — Tucker Blandford had not committed suicide. In fact, he was alive and well. She was further stunned when Tucker’s mother said she was not aware of the couple’s plans to marry.

As reported by Yahoo, Tucker later admitted faking his own death to avoid marriage was a bad idea. However, he did provide an explanation:

“I didn’t know what else to do. Alex is an amazing girl but I got scared and wanted to get out of the relationship. It was moving extremely fast and with us being in different countries, it was really hard… At the time I just felt like I couldn’t tell the truth… “

Indeed, Tucker Blandford chose an unusual and painful way to end his engagement. Thankfully, Alex Lanchester said she is recovering from the incident and moving forward with the rest of her life.
