WWE News: Dean Ambrose Filming WWE Studios Film ‘LockDown,’ Will He Take Time Off?

WWE Studios has been putting out a lot of impressive films that have caught the eye of Hollywood. It was WWE Studios that first gave John Cena a chance to act and show the world what he could do. This made Hollywood take him seriously as a potential actor there, and his success also led to others from WWE getting chances to show what they have in the WWE productions.

Now, WWE is set to give a chance to yet another WWE Superstar, this time Dean Ambrose. Many feel that Dean Ambrose is one of the best characters in WWE and that he could be a top name in Hollywood if the movie industry gave him a chance to play a bad guy. He is set to star in the WWE Studios film, titled Lockdown.

The story is written by Nathan Brooks and Bobby Lee Darby, who also wrote See No Evil 2. According to Variety, Lockdown follows a police officer who finds himself trapped inside his own precinct and hunted after crooked cops stop at nothing to recover incriminating evidence of illegal activities against those closest to him.

Dean Ambrose, real name Jonathan Good, has never really had an opportunity to show his acting chops before so many wonder how well he can do. He has an excellent WWE character that is seen as the wrestling version of The Joker. His promos are considered gold by many fans, and he could be one of WWE’s top stars for years to come at only 28 years of age.

Lionsgate is set to co-produce the film and other WWE Studios projects in the coming years, which is an excellent partner for WWE to have in their move to show what they can do in Hollywood outside the wrestling ring. Lionsgate co-chief operating officer and motion picture group president Steve Beeks said regarding the WWE Studios partnership:

“We’re proud to continue our long-standing partnership with WWE Studios, whose prowess in marketing to their global fan base delivers a consistent track record of commercial success.”

The production for the film will take place within the next few months and is said to be set for a 2015 release date that has not been set. The film will follow other WWE Studios projects such as See No Evil 2 and Leprechaun. Due to the two WWE films coming out soon along with others, Lockdown may end up coming out in 2016. It is not yet known if it will be a theatrical release or a straight to Blue Ray/DVD film as of this writing, but most do not expect it to hit theaters as the star power for the film will be low. Oculus also had lower star power and did relatively well at the box office, so Lockdown may indeed hit theaters.

Due to the filming of the film, Dean Ambrose’s schedule with WWE will be lighter during filming. However, WWE Studios loves to finish films quick. Usually 4-8 weeks are spent filming, but WWE has been known to speed this up. Ambrose will not work as many house shows during this time. He is still expected to be on WWE programming each week, so we’ll never really miss him due to that. So do not expect him to be missing time. He will continue his rivalry with Seth Rollins possibly into the Fall.
