Mega Millions Jackpot: No Winner Friday, Total Rises To $160 Million

There were no winners for the Mega Millions jackpot drawing on Friday, and the total is going from $144 million to $160 million.

According to a report from The Detroit News, the numbers for yesterday’s Mega Millions jackpot were: 16-19-28-29-68 Mega Ball 9 and Megaplier 2. Since no one matched all of the numbers, the jackpot increases, and the drawing will be held again on Tuesday, August 19.

While no one matched all of the numbers for yesterday, one person from Illinois did match five numbers and earned $1 million, according to the official Mega Millions website. In addition, 38 people matched four numbers plus the Mega Ball for $5,000. Five of those were Megaplier winners, and their earnings were doubled to $10,000.

If a winner is drawn on Tuesday for the $160 million jackpot, and that person decides to go with the cash option, he or she will receive $95 million.

Ticket sales for the Mega Millions jackpot are on the rise, according to LottoReport.com. Friday had a total 30 million tickets sold throughout the nation. That is up almost 4 million from the 26.3 million people who bought Mega Millions tickets for the drawing on August 12. As of right now, it has not been confirmed how many people have bought tickets for Tuesday’s jackpot so far.

This year, 258.8 million Mega Millions tickets have been sold since January. The highest amount sold for one drawing was back on March 18, when 113.4 million people purchased tickets for the $400 million jackpot. That amount ended up getting split between two winners – one from Florida and the other from Maryland.

The 30 million people who purchased tickets for Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot is the highest amount since March 18. It is most likely that more than 30 million people will buy tickets for Tuesday’s jackpot, but the final numbers won’t be released until after the drawing.

In comparison, Powerball has had 175.2 million tickets sold. 10.6 million tickets were purchased for Tuesday’s drawing, which was the first since a man in Rifle, Colorado won $90 million. No winner was selected, and the drawing will go again tonight with a total of $50 million on the line.

The Mega Millions jackpot has not had a winner since June 27, when a Texas resident won $33 million, according to a recent report from The Inquisitr. That winning ticket was sold in the small town of Moulton, which has fewer than 1,000 people. The winner from June has yet to come forward.
