Tinder Date Ends In Tragic Death

Australian playboy Gable Tostee was charged with the murder of Warriena “Rrie” Wright, a tourist from New Zealand who fell to her death from a 14th floor balcony.

Wright, 26, was on vacation in Australia when she met up with Tostee, 28. Reports indicate that the two met on the Tinder dating app. On Friday last week, Wright visited Tostee at his apartment in Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast.

Tostee’s neighbors reported hearing a disturbance in Tostee’s apartment. Wright was last seen alive at 2:30 am.

Mashable reports that Wright’s body was found on the ground outside the apartments at around 2:30 am. Tostee left the apartment after the incident, but reports say that he contacted the police and was interviewed without being charged.

Tostee is a bodybuilder, and his dating activities are often displayed on a bodybuilding forum. There, he posted about having difficulty to make friends. On the forum, he also announced joining Tinder under the name G T, and he wrote about being with more than 180 women.

A few of the women that Tostee dated were interviewed, and detectives found out about Tostee’s tactics to lure women in nightclubs.

On Thursday, Tostee was arrested by the Queensland Police at his parents’ home. The authorities have been monitoring his social media accounts, and they also collected disks, a hard drive, a computer, and a camera belonging to Tostee.

Authorities believe that they have a strong case against the bodybuilder, as they have evidence that shows he interacted with Wright just before her death.

Michael Purcell, Tostee’s lawyer, said that Tostee is not guilty. “He denies the allegation and intends to defend the charge.”

Furthermore, Tostee also declared his innocence early in the week when he posted on a forum and said that he “absolutely did NOT cause this girl to fall.”

Wright was in Australia for two weeks to attend a friend’s wedding. Her family is struggling to cope with her death and said that she was a “beautiful, cheerful, intelligent person.” Wright’s sister and mother flew to Australia after hearing the news to aid authorities in the investigation.

On Friday, Tostee attended a court hearing. He was not able to file for bail and remains in the Southport watch house. “My client maintains his innocence and we look forward to the provision of a brief evidence so we can move on with the court process,” Tostee’s lawyer said.

According to The Guardian, the case will resume in court on October 10.
