Paul Bissonnette’s ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Is Something You Have To See [Video]

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has seen everyone from Jimmy Fallon and the Roots to Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe douse themselves in freezing cold water in an effort to raise money to find a cure for ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Even President Barack Obama was challenged to do the challenge, though he decided to donate money instead.

Perhaps the most extreme version of the ALS ice bucket challenge was completed by Paul Bissonnette, who used to play for the Phoenix Coyotes.

The Paul Bissonnette ice bucket challenge saw him scale one of Canada’s most pristine peaks, culminating with the man used to playing on cold ice getting doused in ice cold glacier water.

TMZ Sports reports on the most amazing ice bucket challenge you will see:

“… Paul Bissonnette didn’t just take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge… he took it, multiplied it by a million, and then called out some of the biggest names in sports.

“The challenge that’s all over social media was designed to raise money and awareness for research into ALS. When challenged, you’re supposed to dump anything… from a pitcher to a Gatorade bucket… filled with ice water over your head, or make a donation.

“Bissonnette’s former teammate Keith Yandle challenged him, and BizNasty absolutely crushed it with the help of a helicopter and some bone-chilling glacier water.”

For anyone wondering why Paul Bissonnette’s ice bucket challenge or any of the others have spread like wildfire on social media, The Atlantic was nice enough to do some digging and try to trace back the ice bucket challenge’s origins for us. This is what they found:

“New data from the Facebook data science team heavily supports one theory: that the ice bucket challenger originated with Peter Frates, a former captain of the Boston College baseball team. Frates is 29 years old, and he was diagnosed with ALS in 2012.

“After Frates posted his ice bucket challenge video on July 31, the challenge took off. As the chart below shows, of the more than 15 million who have posted, commented, or liked a post about the challenge, roughly 9 million did so in the past week.”

As for Paul Bissonnette’s ice bucket challenge, he has challenged several others to either take the challenge or pay up. First on the list was King James himself. Lebron, who recently returned home to the Cleveland Cavs, has also been challenged by the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant.
