Chicken Crossing The Road Ends In 911 Call, No Joke [Video]

A chicken crossing the road had one concerned citizen dialing 911 to call in the emergency in Portland, Oregon. Although the 911 dispatcher probably suspected a prank was about to happen, it turns out the 91 call was no joking matter.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, in another instance of a chicken crossing the road the situation ended with everyone being issued tickets because the “chicken” was in fact a police officer wearing a chicken suit.

When the man called 911 for the chicken crossing the road, this was how the conversation went.

911 Dispatcher: 911 Emergency.

Caller: Hi, um, this is actually not a prank call, but there is a chicken trying to cross the road in Linnton.

911 Dispatcher: Is it causing traffic problems?

Caller: Yes, it’s really trying to go into the middle of the road.

911 Dispatcher: Is it just the one chicken?

Caller: Just one chicken, yeah.

Needless to say, the incident was humorous despite the potential severity of the issue. The Portland, Oregon, police department had some fun with the 911 call, writing on its website, “Police Respond to Chicken Crossing the Road in Linnton – Officers Unable to Determine Chicken’s Intent.” Fortunately, this joke did not have a bad ending since no crashes were reported:

“On Monday August 11, 2014, at 5:45 p.m., North Precinct officers responded to the report of a chicken crossing Highway 30 in Linnton, North of the St. John’s Bridge. The caller reported to the non-emergency line that the chicken was creating a traffic hazard along the highway. Responding officers were unable to locate the chicken and fortunately there were no traffic crashes related to this unusual report. While chicken crossing road jokes have been told for more than a century, animals in the roadway creating traffic hazards are no laughing matter.”

Who knew that a chicken crossing a road could be so serious?
