Meet Lemon, The Disabled Duck

Meet Lemon, a disabled duck who’s the subject of a new book.
Lemon has been physically disabled since birth due to a neurological disorder, and can’t walk. Lemon needs to be hand fed, have her nappies changed, and can only get around in a special walker, per the picture above.
Owner, British school teacher Laura Backman claims Lemon has become her obsession, and has written a book on Lemon’s life: “Lemon the Duck” that helps teach kids that disabilities are ok.
Ok, I’ve been good so far. While the message that disabilities are ok is a noble one, this crazy woman has kept alive an animal that is completely dependent on her and incapable of doing anything by itself, an animal that in civilized society would have been put down to save it from misery. If it would have been born in the wild, it wouldn’t have lasted out one day. The only message this sends: that some people value animals more than humans…oh, and some people are stark raving mad.

Hi,
I am Lemon's the Duck's guardian and wanted to clarify what you wrote, since it's completely innaccurate. You should not be spounting off accusations for which you have the facts completely wrong. First of all, I am from USA. Also, your comment :”completely dependent on her and incapable of doing anything by itself” is untrue. She is a great swimmer, she communicates very well, she has a “pow” personality, and she is very strong. I hope no one suggests eithanizing if you ever become disabled. I don't put humans before animals—I believe all life is important and that sometimes we just need a little help from out friends. If you viewed Lemon videos on her website you'd see she is not miserable but rather one happy duck.

Laura, you are a kind and caring woman. I applaude you. Best wishes John (UK).

How does helping a duck equate to caring less about humans? This woman is choosing to perform a good deed at no cost to the taxpayers. I encourage that.

Value animals more than humans? How so? Would you put down a human with this condition?

Ya that just logically does not make any sense. If she had a relative in her care who was in the same situation and she had him killed and let the duck live, THEN your argument would make sense. But having compassion for animals rather than going the easy route and dumping it in the trash just means she has a heart.
