David Guetta Opens Up About The Early Days Of His Career
Before David Guetta was wowing the masses with his mind-bending live shows, he was just another French DJ trying to make a name for himself in the world of electronic music.
Although the guy has plenty of confidence these days, he wasn’t always the cool, calm and collected chap you see behind the decks. In fact, Guetta was reportedly quite terrified to perform in front of an audience. Nowadays, of course, he doesn’t have a problem getting the party started while taking a quick mental journey to faraway lands.
During his recent chat with the Daily Record, David Guetta revealed that the early days of his career were a little nerve wracking. Whenever it was time to put the needle on the record, the DJ’s shaky hands simply wouldn’t cooperate. Of course, he’s come a very long way since those days as a teenager in Paris.
“My first gig in Scotland was at The Arches and I was not the big headliner. I was in the smaller room and I remember the promoter Ricky Magowan stayed with me the entire night. I was surprised and honoured because usually promoters stay with the biggest DJ and he was looking at me and how I was working the crowd. Maybe he felt, ‘This guy is going to be someone.’ I had so much fun.”
According to Scotland Now, Guetta took a moment to address “that moment” at Tomorrowland when the DJ seemed to lose touch with reality. The video quickly went viral, spawned a few animated GIFs, and thoroughly amused folks who’ve never listened to a single note of David’s unique brand of EDM.
While some people are thoroughly convinced that Guetta’s spacey moment was the result of perhaps one too many drugs, the DJ didn’t discuss the cocktail of tasty chemicals he may or may not have consumed during the set. However, he does admit that he was temporarily disconnected with the rest of the world.
“I had a moment where I was thinking. I was gone in my thoughts but it happens to everybody. I think I look a little dumb and I don’t remember what I was thinking.”
