Happy Birthday Halle Berry! Storm Turns 48 Today
Halle Berry turns 48 years old today, and doesn’t look like she’s aged. She doesn’t look any older today than she did before her notorious topless scene in Swordfish and two pregnancies, and that’s incredible.
Berry’s film career hasn’t seen a lot of positives since her Oscar win for Best Actress in Monster’s Ball, but we don’t see her stopping. That Oscar win also marked the first time an African-American received the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, so she definitely has something behind that charming smile.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Jerome Berry and his wife Judith, Halle Maria Berry has made quite a name for herself both on and off the screen. The actress has entered several beauty pageants, finishing as first runner-up for Miss USA and sixth for Miss World.
Like most actresses, Berry got her start on TV. It all began with Living Dolls and cameo appearances in Amen, A Different World, and They Came from Outer Space. In 1991, she made her first major film debut as Cory in the Bruce Willis action film The Last Boy Scout, and the next year in Boomerang.
Halle Berry finally made her first major appearance as Storm in Bryan Singer’s X-Men and its two sequels, and unfortunately had a little too much to say in X-Men: The Last Stand. We can blame that one on Brett Ratner, whose previous works included the Rush Hour films with Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan.
After the first X-Men, Berry received notoriety for a particular scene in Swordfish opposite previous costar Hugh Jackman, and thankfully lost no dignity in the process.

This began her unfortunate downfall in cinema, with critically derided roles in Catwoman (not a Batman spinoff, though everybody thought it was at first), X-Men: The Last Stand, and Die Another Day as Bond girl Jinx. She had a hard time convincing us she could act again until the recent return to TV with Extant. It was here that her recent childbirth helped her nail the role as the mother to an artificially intelligent life form.
Tulia and Miles and Me are still on her to-do list by 2015, but Halle Berry hasn’t let any of her low points keep her down.
