Savannah Guthrie Gives Birth To Baby Girl, Names Her Vale [Photos]

Today co-host Savannah Guthrie gave birth to a beautiful baby girl she named Vale on Wednesday morning. The happy news was shared on national television during the broadcast of her NBC morning show Thursday.

Guthrie has been tweeting in the last few days and asking followers to guess the gender of her baby. The beaming new mother took to Twitter again to “shout their happy news to the world.” Baby weighed five-pounds and is 19.5-inches long.

Savannah Guthrie, 42, and husband Mike Feldman, 45, were married in March and this is the first child for both. Guthrie added that Vale Guthrie Feldman “has blue eyes, a little bit of blondish hair, and the chubbiest cheeks you’ve ever seen… I think we found heaven in this little hospital room in New York City,” while speaking to her colleagues on live television.

Feldman — who is a political consultant — was reportedly by his wife’s side during the birth of their daughter. Apparently, co-host Matt Lauer was also in the loop while Savannah Guthrie was in the process of giving birth, as the two were texting each other when she went silent. After a few moments, she sent a photo of Vale’s little foot.

“I just sat there smiling. It was so great,” Lauer explained. He later took to Twitter to share the happy news.

Savannah Guthrie found out she was pregnant before marrying her husband Mike Feldman in March and was afraid her dress wouldn’t fit.

“It’s funny, ’cause we set the wedding date, I bought my dress, and then I found out,” she said. “So I’ve been doing a little praying that I would fit in it, and it all worked out.”

As an “older” woman, Savannah Guthrie shared that she was nervous about not being able to become a mother. At 42, expecting a baby for the first time was a blessing to the spunky television host, and she shared her thoughts on her maternity blog:

“I know how lucky I am. For a long time, I think I was afraid to even let myself think about how much I hoped to one day have a baby. So that’s my mindset as my hubby and I embark on this adventure: joy and profound gratitude for many blessings and for the kindness and support of all of you wonderful and loyal friends on TODAY.com.”

Savannah Guthrie has stated that she will return to her co-host duties at the Today show following her maternity leave.
