Lauryn Hill To Play 2014 Voodoo Experience, Plus Will Appear On New Pharrell Album

Lauryn Hill is back, and she has been busy! Earlier in the year, Ms. “Doo-wop (That Thing)” took to the festival circuit, playing the Martha’s Vineyard Summer Madness Festival recently, and now the NOLA Defender reports that Lauryn will be playing at the 2014 Voodoo Music Experience, which will take over New Orleans during Halloween. The festival runs from October 31st through November 2nd and will take place at City Park’s Festival Grounds in the heart of New Orleans.

Lauryn has had quite the career, and a personal life that has been plagued by troublesome legal problems. She spent time in the penitentiary for failure to pay income taxes but bounced back when she recently narrated a Swedish documentary by the name of Concerning Violence, a story about African liberation during the 1960s and ’70s.

She has been avidly touring since she has been back in the music scene, but that’s not all. Lauryn Hill will also collaborate with Pharrell Williams on an upcoming album, according to recent news at Vibe magazine. This album is titled NBA 2K15 and will be a 27 song experience featuring some major names in the hip-hop scene.

According to the Vibe report, Pharrell and Lauryn will be joined by Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, Afrika Bambaataa, Missy Elliot, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. When asked about his involvement in the project, Pharrell offered the following information:

“You know what? There are girls that play the game and there’s a lot of girls that are around it because their boyfriends play it or their friends play it. So I thought it’d be such an interesting twist to have the girls weigh in on the song list, because they’re the ones that listen to it, they listen to it just as much. So I was just trying to pick like an alternative approach.”

In the past, this collection of songs has been curated by Jay Z and Lebron James and has had limited exposure as far as a female audience is concerned, so Pharrell has decided to take a risk by adding in power females like Lauryn Hill and Missy Elliot.

The NBA 2k15 album is slated for release on October 7th, but Pharrell has teased a few songs already, with “Scenario” featuring A Tribe Called Quest and “Planet Rock” with Afrika Bambaataa and Soul Sonic Force being a few of the tracks that are currently available for the general public’s listening pleasure.
