Rupert Grint Claims He’s Ed Sheeran When Mistaken For The Singer

Harry Potter star Rupert Grint is frequently mistaken for U.K. singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran. Apparently, he’s been confused for Ed Sheeran so many times that Rupert has stopped correcting people altogether. He just plays along.

According to Movie Pilot, the confusion became especially common after Rupert Grint appeared in Ed Sheeran’s video for his song “Lego House” two years ago. Rupert played an obsessed fan following Ed Sheeran back stage after a show. It’s strange that even after Grint and Sheeran appeared side by side in one of Ed’s videos, people still don’t realize they’re different people. But Rupert does bear a striking resemblance to Ed Sheeran. Both Sheeran and Grint have circular faces with expressive eyes and that trademark red hair.

Ed Sheeran only recently sky-rocketed to popularity, so there was a time when Rupert Grint was the primary ginger-haired U.K. star. Now it seems he’ll have to share the spotlight with Ed. Rupert has recently started accepting the praise intended for Ed Sheeran.

“People think I’m Ed Sheeran,” Rupert told Match of the Day magazine. “They compliment me on my music career and I just play along with it! It’s never too bad, you get the odd person staring at you but it’s pretty manageable.”

According to The Standard, even some celebrities have mistaken Rupert for Ed Sheeran.

“One time I was at this Formula One race and Leo Sayer was there,” said Rupert. “There was definitely a kind of confusion because he came up to me and said how much he liked my music.”

Before the Harry Potter films and before all this Ed Sheeran confusion, Rupert has said that his main ambition was to be an ice cream man.

“My main career ambition was to be an ice-cream man. In fact I bought an ice-cream van as my first car! I don’t drive it much because real ice-cream men get pretty territorial, and even if I just take it to Tesco it’s amazing how many people start queuing up to buy ice-creams.”

Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran just released his second album x, which got him to the number one spot on the U.K. Billboard charts. Ed has also been collaborating a lot with fellow artists this year, including his so-called best friend Taylor Swift and on Jessie Ware’s new single “Say You Love Me.” To see Ed Sheeran’s most famous single, check out the video for “Sing” below:
