Robin Williams World Of Warcraft Memorial Planned

The death of Robin Williams was so translucently tragic that people of all ages were stopped in their tracks when they heard he was actually gone.

The Oscar-winning actor and tour-de-force comedian was one of the very few talents in Hollywood, or across the world for that matter, who managed to appeal to every demographic. Whether you became a fan of his because of his Oscar-winning performance in Good Will Hunting, or because of his stand-up or because of his work as either Aladdin’s Genie or Mork from Mork & Mindy, you couldn’t help but feel saddened by his demise.

It was well-documented that Williams was actually one of the first “celebrity geeks.” And, according to Comic Book, his devotion to all-things nerdy will now see him be honored with his very own World of Warcraft memorial, a game that he previously admitted to being addicted to.

Williams used to confess during interviews and press commitments that he adored devouring graphic novels and comic books as well as playing video and board games. In fact he even named his daughter, Zelda Williams, after The Legend of Zelda game, which was first released in 1986.

Soon after Williams’ death was announced, a petition on Change.org started to do the rounds that asked for World of Warcraft‘s publisher, Activision-Blizzard, to provide a tribute to the late-great comedian with his own in-game NPC.

Entitled, “Create an NPC within World of Warcraft to memorialize the late Robin Williams, an avid World of Warcraft player, and one of the funniest men alive,” the petition notes Williams’ love of the game and then goes on to not only declare that he was a very serious gamer but also that he used to build his own PCs.

It then concludes: “Because of his presence within our community, we the players of World of Warcraft are asking Blizzard to kindly create an NPC within the game that memorializes the actor/comedian. Many have expressed a wish to this character perform some of Williams best jokes within the Worlds End Tavern, so that he may continue making us smile long after his passing.”

The petition has amassed over 10,000 signatures, and one of the technical game designers on World of Warcraft has even teased that something in this mold is already being planned.
